been entering sl comps for some time, irked that entries aren't accepted unless you opt in to Hyde emails each time..
not a sniff of any prize as yet, but I feel their constant emails are getting OTT.

It's a hazard/by-product & I just do not get hung up on it.
Quid pro quo & all that0 -
I enter them all & don't get that many from themplease be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0

nor me - sometimes they're interesting or funny, I don't count these a spam because I've asked to see themproud gran to 4 lovely boys and one little girl0

I just unsubscribe, but then I wonder if it will make my entry invalid.Make £10 per day-
June: £100/£3000 -
Just remember to unsubscribe as you go along after the comps have ended - I've only just started taking my own advice on this one as my inbox was getting ridiculous.0

I just rule them to go to junk and have a quick look daily
nearly all emails i get are ruled to junk0 -
I won a Hardy Amies coat (worth about 500 quid) with them a couple of months ago…so I find that sometimes the spam is worth it…especially as the prizes shortlist offer are normally pretty good….
but then I have a gmail account which automatically sorts your emails into 'spam', 'social' (fb/twitter), 'promotions' and 'primary' and only sends you notifications on the 'primary' stuff. But i do get over a 100 emails in the promotions folder every day!Latest MSE win: Metcalfes Snack Box
Best wins: £300 Briggs & Riley suitcase, £100 John Lewis, £100 Asda & £100 Shoezone vouchers, £200, £800 Hardy Amies coat, Tickets To The Isle Of Wight Festival
win £5 a day in August:£0/£1550 -

I'm not sure that's practical for Shortlist / Mr Hyde, simply because they have so many comps with decent prizes. Their systems will detect whether you open them before deleting them, because that's a really important stat for these people, so I try to delete as many as possible without opening them. Just hope that by doing that I haven't accidentally deleted any telling me that I had won! :rotfl:
I wouldn't mark them as spam. People here have had problems entering competitions with people that they had previously flagged up as being spam, they understandably get upset about it because it's not spam if you have signed up to their mailing list. Thanks to all who post constructively.

I agree with Roger and others who make the point that it's really not all that of a major hassle is it? One or two mails a day in a sea of other crud isn't enough to worry about in my opinion - and these companies do offer good prizes and MSE'ers have won from them. I also delete them unread and I'm thinking maybe that's not the smartest policy! I think I'll just skim read them from now on!0

It is sometimes mentioned in Ts&Cs that if you unsubscribe before the closing date your entry will not be counted. The trick is to unsubscribe from mailings lists after their competition has ended, but obviously if you enter a lot of competitions it's not really practical for the major competition providers.
If I receive an email from somebody and think "who are they?" or "don't remember them" I go and do a quick forum search here, if I can only find matches with green ticks that have already been moved to the Game Over section then I unsubscribe. Hasn't happened many times so far :rotfl: but then I haven't been comping for long. Thanks to all who post constructively.
