shortlist comps / Mr Hyde spam

I don't consider it spam: I've opted in because I want to enter the competition. I only get one daily email, max, and their terms do state that it's a daily newsletter. I subscribe because I know that the site / comps are genuine, and that they don't pass my details on to third parties. All emails I get from them are solicited, although not always relevant.
I'd have to pay a couple of quid to enter the Lotto, or 8p or so a comp for a weekly magazine, so I consider my ticking the box as my 'payment' for this one. :rotfl:
It takes me one second each day to hit the delete button - and I prefer that, knowing I've entered some pretty damned fabulous comps (with good chances of winning, judging by the number of Mr Hyde, Shortlist and Stylist wins in IWIWIW).0 -

The trick is to unsubscribe from mailings lists after their competition has ended, but obviously if you enter a lot of competitions it's not really practical for the major competition providers.
If I receive an email from somebody and think "who are they?" or "don't remember them" I go and do a quick forum search here, if I can only find matches with green ticks that have already been moved to the Game Over section then I unsubscribe. Hasn't happened many times so far :rotfl: but then I haven't been comping for long.
Personally, I think it's better to unsubscribe after the winners have been announced and contacted. I am sure a lot of companies will pick winners, then check their current subscription record, and that may be 24, 48, 72 hours and more after the end date.
If I intend to use this method, I unsub after 14-28 days (dependent on how keen I was on the prize :rotfl: ) to try to ensure that the winners have been chosen etc.0 -
I've won about 4 of these in about 2 years. Some good prizes too.
So I cant really complain about the Mr Hyde emails0 -
It's not like it joins you up 20 times if you enter 20 comps with them - you still only get the one email.
No point in even opening the obvious newsletters, etc (obv unless you want to!) so I just go 'tick, tick, tick, tick, tick' etc down the side of my gmail account and hit delete. Simple. As above, it's part of comping.
Jx2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0
