MSE Hastings car insurance/Amazon voucher deal

Hi all,
I'm getting very frustrated with the £25 Amazon voucher deal with Hastings car insurance - have any of you got advice for me?

I've clicked through from the MSE weekly email link to register for this deal, then followed the quote process - very carefully filling in every single box and getting absolutely no error messages on the way through the screens. But when I get to the very last step in accepting the quote ("i agree and continue"), I'm getting a pop-up box which says:

Contact us
Sorry, but based on the information you have provided we are unable to proceed any further with your policy online.
Please contact our call centre on 0800..... (etc)

But if you take out a policy via the call centre they charge you £12.50 for the privilege and don't honour the voucher offer.

I'm wondering if they won't process my purchase because I'm a very low-risk driver with a fairly low quote around £150, and I haven't selected any of the optional extras which they charge extra money for. Do they think they won't make enough money out of me to honour the voucher offer?

Has anyone had a similar problem, or is it just me they don't like? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Thank you for taking time to share your experience here. Generally if you are directed to the call centre, then one or more of the details are causing a problem with the quote. Our representative will then be able to check through them and help with the issue. Have you spoken about the quote with us yet?

  • Thanks for responding Joe. I rang the call centre to try and find out which response was causing a problem, so I could fix it - but I was told the website was completely separate and no one at the call centre could access my details, even with the quote reference number. Which meant, after adding the arrangement fee and removing the incentive, you quote was far from being the best so there was no point pursuing it.

  • Wish I'd read this before I'd followed the link and applied. Not only am I having problems trying to get the Amazon voucher - as hastingsdirect are saying it's nothing to do with them, but getting through to them is a nightmare. Let's hope I don't actually need to make any claims on my insurance this year! Not a good switch, especially when the offer doesn't seem to really exist.
  • Two days after my post I suddenly get an email from Hastings with my amazon voucher attached. Funny that. So they are aware of the offer then, it's just their customer service staff who tell you otherwise.
