Table and chairs

With any luck I should be moving into my new (to me) flat in the next few months.
I will need to buy a dining table and chairs. Such things seem to be astonishingly expensive. Ebay has some potentially nice second hand (or 'vintage' as they like to call them) ones; also some cheap new ones. Purveyors of the new ones do not indicate method of construction, though some say that 'some assembly' will be needed, making me suspect the use of bolts and wing nuts instead of joints. I'm also loathe to buy something that expensive (and even cheap = substantial amounts of wonga) unseen.
Any suggestions for other places to find good quality stuff at a reasonable price?

Get yourself onto your local Freecycle or Freegle....
Loads of really good tables & chairs on there.
Just put up a Wanted ad & also keep a lookout on the Offered ads.
Better quality than lots of the cr*p that you will find in the shops......
AND FREE !!!0 -
Charity shops, recycling centres. Good quality 2nd hand can be had for peanuts and last you longer than 'cheap' new. You can have fun restoring or upcycling it if you are that way inclined and won't matter if you mess it up. Just start again and have fun learning.:D0

Ask your local council if they have a recycling shop. My local one does and they refurbish furniture and then sell it on. Otherwise have a look in your nearest big town, there are usually lots of second hand stores, where you will pick up really good quality furniture at silly pricing. The Sally Army shops are normally good too.

Most large towns have house clearance auction houses. Anything out of fashion will be at giveaway prices.
Don't be snobbish about having to assemble a table. Decent tables will be designed with solid fixtures and fittings.0 -
Family; friends; work colleagues? I'd also definitely second local auctions and if there's a biggish car boot near you, that would be worth a try, too.Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0

We got our dining chairs from the British Heart Foundation shop. They do plenty of high quality used items but also have some new ranges that are designed for them. Well worth a look.0
