First Direct 1st Account - are they choosy?

I've just been denied a 1st Account with First Direct. I did ask for an £800 overdraft instead of the usual £500 one. Could this have been why I was denied?

Hi Picky,
As I understand, FD will only accept people with an impeccable credit history without blemishes. You can be declined an account based on your credit history, repayment history etc, or you don't fit they criteria or calibre of customer they want to do business with.
It's unlikely you would be declined an account based on the amount you requested for your overdraft limit during application.
You can ask FD on what grounds you were declined and account with them, and I would go check your credit history with all 3 agencies and if nothing seems out of place, you can appeal their decision, and ask them to look at the application again, or wait 6 to 12 months and apply again.
I hope this helps you.

I have a default on my credit record which is now satisfied dating back to '09 for roughly £100 (mobile phone contract) and I was accepted in Dec 12/Jan 13. I didn't ask for an O/D at the time but I did get one around 6 months in for £250.
I do have a fairly good income so maybe I was accepted on that basis...0
