Hi I'm on jsa I've been on it for almost ten years as to why well that's another story, but my cousin lived with me temporarily after he split with his Wife from january 2013 to june 2013. I recieved a letter from the leeds benefits service this week saying there had been an overpayment of benefit and that I would have to pay it back £5 a week was mentioned.

But they also wanted some information on my cousin, his date of birth which I gave them and his national insurance number which I didn't know, also they wanted me to confirm the exact dates he moved in and out my place, but they said I told them he stayed from september 2012 to june 2013, and I don't remember doing so. I've since made a statement at the one stop centre that he stayed january to june 2013.

They also want proof of my cousins income for the period he was staying at mine, well he was also on jsa when I said to someone at the one stop centre that I would go to the jobcentre and get some proof they said they wont give you it. I've asked my cousin to go to the jobcentre to get some proof but unfortunety he seems to not be the person I thought he was and seems reluctant to go how can I get proof that he was on jsa while living at mine if he wont get it himself. thanks

Edit: he gave me his national insurance number when I give them this will that be enough to satisfy them.

  • With his National Insurance Number they will be able to check the CIS system - this will give them access to all his DWP records and dates he advised the DWP of changes of address.
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.
  • Well they want written evidence of his income during the whole time he stayed at mine, otherwise they say they will have to assume he was working. And for every week that I cant provide evidence that he was on jsa, I will have to pay back £91. And for every week I provide evidence he was on jsa I will have to pay back £14. I have given them written evidence that he was on jsa from january 9th to april 9th but they still want evidence from 9th april to the exact day he moved out. Is there any way that I can get this evidence myself.
