The thing about rent rang a bell with me. My daughter's friend who is 22 and a single mum moved into a small house belonging to her Dad and gets about £500.00 benefit for that every month. She actually only pays him £250.00 and pockets the rest. She was moaning the other day that she only gets £17,000 a year in benefits and grants ( she is doing a degree of sorts) and my daughter said when they go shopping she spend £200 to £300 at a time. Her parents have room for her to live with them but why not live where you can live for free and get paid extra aswell!!
So she gets £17,000 a year, only pays £3,000 rent, if we assume she pays even £400 a month in other bills such as power, water and council tax, she probably pays far less, she has £8,400 a year to spend on food and clothes and going out. I would love to have that much to spend like that. As a single mum she probably gets childcare thrown in, she probably gets the council tax paid etc etc. And she has the cheek to moan. To be honest, depending on what she is like, I would probably find it very hard to resist reporting her, but I know you have to step careful on that sort of thing when there are other friendships at stake. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

Yes she gets nursery paid for aswell. I remember when my kids were young we had to pay for playgroup and even though we both worked I struggled to pay the bill sometimes. She is my daughter's friend so I cant really report her but my daughter may at some point. She also loses her phone for a past time when she goes out and gets drunk and always replaces it and I know its not insured.0 -

We prob ought to avoid the "benefits debate" as this thread almost went in to melt down a couple of year ago when insults started to get traded!"He that lieth down with dogs shall rise up with fleas" Benjamin Franklin
