Why are dogs still dying in hot cars?

I wonder if these owners would subject themselves to sitting in the car for an hour or more in direct summer sunshine with the window open an inch? I doubt it.
To say that people don't know what may happen is ludicrous, anyone (most of us at some point) stuck in a traffic jam in blazing hot sunshine knows how quickly the car heats up & how quickly things get uncomfortable.
chris n tj got it spot on.... morons!
I watched a clip on facebook yesterday of a vet who filmed himself sitting in a car in the sun for half an hour. All 4 windows of the car were down a bit but he said although there was a breeze outside he could feel nothing in the car. He felt ill after 15 minutes but made himself sit there for the whole 30 minutes. By that time the car had reached over 100 degrees. He was sweating and his clothes were soaked with sweat. He said he felt ill. Dogs though can't sweat and don't understand what is happening and why.
I really do think people who do this should be charged with cruelty. There is no excuse and I am sick of reading about yet another poor dog who dies an awful death because they have a moron for an owner. The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
On facebook Defender Land Rover page there is a video on May 18th that's worth a quick look.DONT BREED OR BUY WHILE HOMELESS ANIMALS DIE. GET YOUR ANIMALS NEUTERED TO SAVE LIVES.0

If I take my dogs out in the car I ALWAYS remove them from the car when we get to where we are going.
If I can't do this I don't take them.
There are enough hazards to a dog's health and well being without me acting like an idiot and adding to them.0 -
I think one of the problems is that most cars today are air conditioned. So when you get out it's a nice cool car.... but then it heats up! I'm not condoning people doing this, and I would never leave my dogs in the car unattended anyway in any weather, but maybe it's one reason why seemingly nice people do this?0

I'm sorry, but no. I know you're not defending people here so not a criticism of you at all, but people KNOW how hot cars get.
The car might be air conditioned while driving, but I'm pretty certain we've all gotten into a car after going shopping or coming out of work and had to wait with the doors open for a while before we can even bear to sit in it and start the engine up.
People who leave dogs in cars are simply ignorant and cruel. I can't believe anyone would dream of leaving a child in a car, so I don't understand why they think it's OK to do it to a dog.0
