Start speaking Klingon or some weird made up language; they soon hang up. Or say 'Can I just pop you on hold a second?' and play them some thrash metal; or finish each sentance with 'By each passing second the penguins continue to steal my sanity'. The latter is mt favourite.

depending on terms of contact by promoter, I would just give a polite no thanks.

I take it the comp end date had passed, and they weren't just phishing for sales?
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

Giving a polite no thanks has no effect on this lot. The first call I got was given a polite no thanks. The second call was given an icy no thanks. The third (Sunday lunch time) call was when things started to descend into unpleasantness which was, I fell, entirely reasonable.

I have started to turn the tables with these cold callers --- I now try and sell them something, last time it was a car I tried to sell them ...... they soon hang up

Am deeply proud of my daughter who converted the JWs who call on her to vegetarianism :D (I'm not veggie, but she's a passionate believer in animal rights, so I admire her nerve :rotfl:)

    Made it up vanpopple

    Other things I do are:-
    1) I'm sorry, he died yesterday
    2) 'Can I speak with the homeowner?' and I reply 'I'll have you know I am happily married. How dare you?' and then hang up
    3) 'Is that you Dave? Ha, you had me going there' etc
    4) 'No I'm not Mr XXXX but I can get him' and put my 7 year old son on (he loves it, he asks them about their favourite TV shows etc)

We get frequent nuisance calls from some survey company asking to speak to the homeowner, I recognise the number now so I always get my 10 year old to answer. He loves putting on a mock deep voice and saying "errr, yeh, this is the 'ome-owner" and then arguing with them when they ask to speak to his mum or dad! :D

Haha! I love some of your responses!

But, if you want to block calls and your mobile phone doesn't do it or like me you have no idea how to, you can download the AVG anti-virus app which has a call blocking facility on it.

This worked a treat for me today, I had a phone call from a far too upbeat chap from vodafone. After I'd said I was very happy with my current provider, no thank you and hung up I blocked them. An hour later there was a beep on my phone to inform me they'd called again but the app blocked it. Result!
