Annoying sales calls

I just had one of those calls that puts you off entering certain comps.
It was from Thomas Sanderson Blinds and Shutters, and the guy said "You recently entered a competition to win £500 worth of blinds with us. Well, I'm pleased to tell you the winner has been chosen. It isn't you but as a thank you for entering I can offer you a £50 discount off your next order."

I gave him pretty short shrift, explaining that there's no way in the world I want his blinds at the prices they charge! We do need new ones, hence the reason I entered. £500 would have done the job, £50 won't even do one window!

It was one of those "give us your number so we can let you know you've won" situations.

Very annoying! I guess it's part of the deal, but still, grrrrrr!

Just inform them you are registered with the TPS - and unless it is a call to say you have won, they have no right to phone you and any further calls will be reported to the TPS

The problem with these people is at the outset of the call they give the impression you have won so you listen for a bit longer. When I told them to remove my phone number one said 'but how will we let you know if you win?' hmm that's a tricky one, letter? email?

They are the vermin of the telesales world and I speak as someone who used to do telesales years ago.

They are on the comps forum no no list. I would never enter their comps, I don't believe anyone ever wins the £500 either.

There was a thread on here a couple of months ago, when I blocked them calling my mobile, they SEARCHED my home phone number from my address from the comp and rang that. I never use that number.

They are terrible at phoning and really need something doing about the level and volume of calls you recieve from them!

I seem to remember a condition of entry to their comps is that you agree to receive one phone call.

Didn't spot anything in the Ts&Cs, must admit, but lesson learned! I am registered with the TPS but forgot to mention it. Number now blocked.

They rang me not half an hour ago, I got the same spiel as in the OP, but I thought he said you have won or we can give a £50 voucher plus a discount, and 2 for the price of one blah de blah

I must admit I was pretty rude and just hung up :o

At least he has a job even if it is a thankless one

I started a thread a while back on here about these people who pestered the hell out of me - I cracked when they rang on a Sunday and questioned me as to why I'd entered the competition! I went on Twitter and let them have some which made them very apologetic and I got removed from their lists.
As a result of that thread they now appear on the MSE Comping Spam list <<<proud>>> :D
