Blinking air bag/seat belt light

Have an old 1.25 Fiesta which sailed thru its MOT a few months ago.

However the Air bag/seat belt pretensioner light is now flashing all the time in a sequence of 4 flashes then pause then 4 flashes. This is when engine is running and not and seat belt fastened.

I've looked on the Internet which identifies this as a seat belt pretensioner problem. I've followed all the fixes - fuse out, connector checked etc etc. Does any one have any other "guaranteed" fixes.

You sure it's a seat belt light? They're normally two different things.

This is an OLD Fiesta, 16 years and going strong. THe owners guide shows a person sat in seat with belt on and air bag in front of body and describes it as Air bag/seat belt pretensioner control light

That's odd, I didn't think Fiestas of that age had pre-tensioners, but four flashes is the Ford fault code for that (not the airbag).

Usually (hopefully in your case) this fault is caused by the seatbelt pre tensioner connectors under the front seats either corroding or being damaged.

If it's not these then it could get expensive.

Four flashes is a fault with the seat belt pre-tensioners. Along with the airbag, they comprise the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS).

Under each of the front seats you should find an electrical connector, usually yellow. Undo, clean and re-make them. With luck, this usually cures the problem.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

I was hopeful that this might be the answer; even sprayed the connector with contact spray. No difference.
Looks like it might be to run the car for the rest of its MOT life (8 months) and then scrap it as repair could cost more than the car

Get a price for a fix before dissmissing it. Great little cars.
