PPI and self-employment

Hi All,
I've been putting off trying to claim PPI -partly because I'm not sure if I'm eligible.
I've had the same credit card since at least 2001 and was paying PPI then (Have all statements). I've been self employed since 2002 and have been paying the PPI ever since even though I'm now aware I'd be unable to claim on it as a self-employed person.
I've noticed a letter from the bank a few months ago-a PPI check of some kind-I guess to check I'm still eligible for the insurance, but I don't remember reading one of these letters before. Have the banks just started sending these because of all the claims?
Does anyone know if I'd be eligible to claim as I haven't been eligible to hold the insurance for the last 12 years!
Really appreciate any advice

Have you read the T&Cs to see if they do cover you? Some do, some are considered too onerous to be fair.
Anyway, if you have complaints, fill in the form and send it off.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -

Are you sure? Most do cover self employed. Although a significant minority do not or have onerous conditions.Does anyone know if I'd be eligible to claim as I haven't been eligible to hold the insurance for the last 12 years!
You cant complain about being mis-sold on that basis as that happened in 2002 and you had the PPI prior to that date. However, if the provider verifies you are not eligible they may well refund from the date you became self employed.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). So you took out the PPI in 2001, did the sales person have a crystal ball?
It is rare you wouldnt be eligible for the PPI, there may be onerous conditions to claim but you would be eligible as you can claim sickness with no issues.0 -
Thanks so much for your responses

I was pretty sure that being self-employed made me ineligible but will look again. Thanks again!0
