Is this sharp practice from Scottish Power?

I salute those who fall on the razor wire now, so that those who try to leave next year will have a smoother passage, having raised the issue so that Scottish Power will have been reprimanded by next year.
Actually, what I really want is for OfGem to make sending a meter reader by the new supplier as a condition for the switch. This would ensure the meter has not been tampered, is the right type, as well as ensuring an impartial reading. The new supplier only need to do another meter reading in two years time, so it' hardly a big cost.0 -

You seem to have faith in meter readers doing their job correctly
My daughter had an actual read bill for electric and a snotty letter for access to the gas meter - gas meter is outside and electric meter was not read !
The TNT "postman" that stuffed all the post in the first letterbox in the street was fired, I assume. This suggests:
1. He is getting JSA. But as the new rules will eventually stop paying him. This will force him to:
2. Look for a job as a meter reader, which requires remarkably few qualifications.
After the one day training course, which made sure he was not blind and have fingers to type numbers, he begins a job that is strangely familiar to the previous one.
3. It takes him one day to realise all he has to do is to add a few hundred to the old reading, and press enter. He doesn't even have to get out of bed!0 -
Hi Rookie, it sounds like when your opening readingswent through the validation process with your previous provider and a thirdparty, they came back incorrect. Don’t worry though, if the readings are onlyslightly different to the ones you submitted, we can add a credit to youraccount to make sure this doesn’t cost you anything. Could you send us an emailto socialmedia@ovoenergy.com withyour name and account number so we can look into this for you? J.Thanks, OVO“Official Company Representative

I have recently transferred my energy supplier from Scottish Power to First Utility and after requesting reimbursement from Scottish Power for overcharging in their final bill (due to using estimated readings), I received the following email.
Thank you for your recent email.
I have checked your account and can see that we have already received final reads from your new supplier and issued a final bill using these readings.
The transfer readings you have asked us to use are very close to the readings provided by your new supplier.
When disputing transfer reads we abide by the industry wide Agreed Reads process. This process only allows reads to be changed when the difference between the reads being disputed is higher than set regulated tolerances and both suppliers agree to the change.
The industry set tolerances are
Electricity 225 units
Metric Gas Meters 120 units
Imperial Gas Meters 41 units
I checked the difference between the new supplier transfer read for Electricity 15149.1 and the read you have provided us 15142 and found the difference to be 7.1 units which is lower than the industry set tolerances.
For Gas the between the new supplier transfer read for Gas 12568 and the read you have provided us 12528 and found the difference to be 40 units which is also lower than the industry set tolerances.
As a result I am unable to change the readings.
For further information on the switching process please visit our online Customer Service Support Centre, there is a page here which explains the process and timelines:

I got the same issue when I moved from SP to OVO. I provided my meter reading on the switch date. OVO started to bill me off those Actual readings and then a few weeks later I received a final bill from SP on estimated numbers.
9047 : SP Closing estimated reading
9015 : OVO Opening actual reading
So I expected to pay twice for the 30 units between the 2 figures. I also received the same reply from SP, it's almost as if they dont actually read what you've put.
I understand the tolerance thing, and that it is not worth them generating a new bill. But the opening and closing readings HAVE to be the same. They can not just come up with their own number and make me pay twice for the same barrels of gas in between. I would have taken that to court.
Got it sorted in the end. The difference was £43 in the final SP bill (from £126 to £83).0 -
Yes it's sharp practice from Scottish Power.
Glad to see that Ovo will give you credit so you don't have to pay twice for Scottish Powers Actions.
I recently changed from Scottish Power and in the total mess they made of the transfer they sent 1 set of readings to my new supplier which my new supplier agreed then revised their electrical reading up 3 months later.
They are now chasing me to pay for the extra 17 units (which I have already paid my new supplier for) so "The industry set tolerances" are obviously only relevant to them if they are in Scottish Power's favour.0
