    Hey

Depends what sort of thing you're after. Is it lunch or dinner? Do you want somewhere dark and romantic or quirky or just decent food or moneysaving? Generally speaking Rogano on Royal Exchange Sqaure is known as posh/best seafood and oyster place and it's where my brother went when he proposed cause they love that place. I've never been though! (far too expensive and oysters? gross)

I would start on 5pm-you might get a good deal and you can narrow it down by area/price etc. You can also look up resteraunt reviews on The List which can be really useful and you can put in the categories you like ie Indian or Romantic or whatever.

I'm a West End kinda gal so I like places around the West End like Ashton Lane where you can take the Special Person for a wee drink after or to the Grovesnor cinema. But there are great places all over the city. And remember-it's quite possibly the company rather than the food that he/she is interested in :p:D
why be a song, when you can be a symphony?

I like konaki which is a greek restaurant in glasgow and does terrific food. However as the other op wisely said it depends on what type of atmosphere you want- cosy, busy , posh etc. Konaki can be quite noisy on weekends but on the friday they have a greek party night which is great fun and definately an ice breaker.
My friend went to a new mongolian resturant that has just opened in glasgow & they liked it for something different. However I would also say it depends if your dinner partner is vegetarian or has any preferances for certain type of food where you maybe go. Princess square is always a safe bet downstairs there is the nice italian . I would maybe avoid indian as sometimes its a bit burpy ! good luck

I don't think you can beat The ubiquitous Chip for atmosphere and the surrounding pubs are great.

Very expensive but I ate in Gamba, West George st this week and it was one of the best meals I've had. Mainly seafood.

I also really like Cafe Andaluz on St Vincent Place. Nice ambience, fab food, much more pocket friendly!

Wherever you choose, hope it's lovely!

Another vote for the UB chip (I had my wedding there last century) also upstairs at Babbity Bowsters in the merchant city, small and a bit quirky but I ate so much the last time I was there I thouht I might not survive
Just call me Nodwah the thread killer
  • I've probably missed this but a fabulous place in ggow city is Thai Lemongrass on renfrew st opposite jongleurs/cineworld cinema. It's beautiful inside, great staff, and after returning from asian travels I was thilled at how authentic it was. I've been a few times with my partner and we love it. Not too pricey either. Go there!
Back on the MSE wagon after going dark for a while.

I Like Barcelona in princes square,.
  • There are certainly plenty of 'nice' restaurants in Glasgow, but as to whether they are suitable for 'money saving experts' is another matter!

If you are on a modest budget, I recommend checking out the following:

    1) Salsa
To be found on the southside of the river, just over the Suspension Bridge on Carlton Place. Mexican basement restaurant. Excellent little place if you like things hot!

    2) Cafe Cossachock
Great for something a bit different - is a restaurant based in the Russian Cultural Centre on Albion Street. Ideal if you love your blintzes and vodka.

    3) Wee Curry Shop
At the bottom of Buccleuch Street in Garnethill. One of my fave Indians in Glasgow - won't cost an arm and a leg.

    4) West Brewing Company
A great place that I only recently discovered. It's a working Bavarian Style brewery/restaurant hidden away at the People's Palace end of Glasgow Green. German influenced menu and beers. Modest prices.
