I received a bill of over £700 from my last place (for a quarterly).

I don't know if they've made a mistake but I've received several letters threatening to send debt collectors. I've now got one saying "FINAL DEMAND".

I've been trying to call them for the last two weeks, many times I've waited for half hour plus, and after finally getting through and trying to explain my problem, I get transferred to another life where I wait for hours and nobody picks up.

I've done this morning, afternoon and evening every day. Nobody will deal with my problem.

What if I refuse to pay this bill until somebody investigates the situation? What will they do?

I've already stressed about this long enough and wasted many hours, it's about time they try to contact me.

  • I managed to get hold of them on Twitter - they take a couple of days to get back though.
  • The thing is I did get hold of them, I arranged a callback, but they've transferred me to an empty line around 10 times now. It's the same process every time.

Are you reporting that you have had a £700 bill, as the Final Bill for your previous address, and that the figures on it, (Meter Readings & End Date), are not accurate ?

If this is the case, stop wasting your time on the phone
WRITE a letter headed Complaint, setting out the errors on the bill.
With this letter sent all demands for payment should cease till the matter is resolved.

If you don't write, the 'system' will just keep rolling forward to Debt Collection Agencies and court action
  • Ok thanks I will try writing a letter. I'm just worried because there is a deadline to this final payment and I don't want to end up having to go to court.
