DIY wine rack using terracotta pipes

I saw a beautiful wine rack in someone's basement while I was on holiday in Portugal last week.
It was made from small sections of hexagonal terracotta pipe and looked a bit like this: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/913QiO6Zo0L._SL1500_.jpg
Has anyone managed to make on of these themselves? I've looked for the pipes and all I can find and really expensive kits. I was hoping there is a way to do it cheaply using plumbing supplies from Wickes or similar?

Dont have wine long enough to need a rack
but clay land drainage pipe? Might pick some up cheaply at a local reclamation yard (if you want shabby chic). They will be round (ish) so you will need to figure out how best to arrange them; (don't want wine stored in something precarious).

Wine worth storing should be stored in a cool dark place such as a cellar or garage so it really shouldn't matter what the racks look like.
If you want one for decorative purposes don't keep any decent bottles in it for more than a short period of time.0 -
The only Terracotta pipe you'll find is round unfortunately. otherwise its kits time.0

If you're making one like the one in that picture.......
How many bottles of wine will you be drinking ?Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.
