Being billed for energy used more than 12 months ago

Options
Hiya, I have so many complaints about NPower. My direct debit each month was through the roof and really over priced. I provided exact meter readings weekly to avoid any mistakes with estimated bills.
I decided to leave my property in May becuase the price of my energy was too much. When I told Npower I was leaving they gave me a refund of £1100..which I thought was obviously due to me paying to much over the 2 years I had lived in my flat, so this was good news to me.
Then a few days later, I receive FIVE bills all in one go. Which then resulted in me owing Npower £97.00! Due to lack of customer service and general dimwits, they had no explanation for any of this..these bills were dated from the start of my tenancy in my flat, so were dated more than 12 months ago.
Watching the news the other night and a rep from MSE said they cannot bill me for energy used more than 12 months ago? Does anybody know if this applies even if I recieved bills during the two years??

If you were paying by monthly D/Debit, I'm afraid that the "No more than 12 months back-billing Agreement" would not normally apply
It was brought into being to save customers who had not been billed for more than 12 months, from "Bill Shock" - But as D/Debit customers build up a large credit against the bill when it eventually arrives, there is no "Bill Shock"

    However
As n'power screwed up by returning all your D/Debit credit to you before they issued bills there is a chance it should apply - But you will have to argue your corner to get it
WRITE to n'power heading the letter Complaint, useing the arguement that despite domestic financial pressures, you always ensured funds were available to meet the monthly payments to n'power, and when they returned the £1,100 credit sum to you without any supporting statement you had no way of knowing this was an error, and used the £1,100 as a windfall to part-pay off other debts.
The late arrival of n'power Bills is pushing your finances to breaking point and you are most certainly suffering "Bill Shock"

    However
