    Quite possibly, I wasn't sure what car the OP had or whether that reference to a Galaxy was just a 'for instance'. May make a difference presumably whether it's petrol or diesel too.

    Norman Castle makes a good point too - it's not always the mileage that dictates how often the belt should be changed, you also have to take into account the age of the belt and other components involved.

    I wouldn't really be keen driving a car round that hasn't been maintained properly.
  • The Galaxy I mentioned was a 'for instance', a mechanic told me this when I was getting the cambelt on my Renault megane (which was one of my worst cars) done and I was complaining about the high cost of this (it was around £200 I think). He told me for Galaxy's they have to take the whole engine out to do it.
