I have been considering buying a new printer and have plumped for a canon inkjet. The newest models require chipped cartridges and although I realise that this can be got round and I don't want to have to deal with all the hassle this would entail. So I want to look at getting the most recent models that did not use chipped cartridges. Does anyone know which canon inkets are my best bets?

    Hi,

We have a Canon Pixma i3000 that is very good, and was among the last to use non-chipped cartridges.

My colleague has a Pixma i4000, also non chipped that he is very pleased with.

Get your compatible carts from SVP and you are well away.

Slight note of caution, the inks in this series of printers were not particularly fade resistant - having said that, it hasn't been an issue for us. The later chipped ones had longer lasting ink, I believe.

    Hope that helps,

    Regards,

    White.

Yes it does White, thanks. You have more or less confirmed what I have read elsewhere so I'll be on the lookout for the models you have mentioned.

I have a Pixma IP5000 which does not use chipped carts.

Canon changed the model numbers slightly by throwing an additional digit in, e.g. the IP4000 became the IP4200, the IP5000 became the IP5200.

Look for the *000 series, you would probably get them from Ebay, these are the ones that can use cheap compatible carts
