We used DIY kitchens and really liked them. The quality was great, and they were very helpful. I thought they were pretty good value for money. They come pre built (they are glued units)

good work penguingirl, the after looks really nice and definitely an improvement.

I'll try and get a couple of pics of mine tomorrow. You wouldn't believe the 'before' tho, a derelict shambles with holes in the walls, full of rubble, builders' materials, and builders' discarded crisp & biccy wrappers!

Who measured up your kitchen so you knew what to order from diy kitchens?

Out of the 3 TKC are the best, then Howdens, Ikea I refuse to fit. Never met a fitter who likes them, or if they do they have never fitted average to good quality units
TKC you need someone with an acc there same as Howdens. Fitters who use Howdens get two prices one for you and the real price.

The main issue is not the units but the fitter, make sure you research them as much as the units.

DIY Kitchens (www.diy-kitchens.com) seems a great site. The key is price transparency, which is why my wife loves the Ikea kitchens. We know exactly how much each item costs.

I guess the issue is finding someone who will fit one... Any fitters in the Manchester area?
  • For kitchne use you can come our site denver.cbslocal.com. If you are remodeling a bathroom, check out some of the following Denver stores and find what you need for your own home sanctuary.

We did it all ourselves. We measured and re-measured a lot of times! (and still cut a worktop too short so had to replace) We also have some really awkward bits (corners with boxed pipes etc) so had the corner cupboards come unglued so we could cut them to size (result is we have a very odd shaped corner cupboard at the top, with almost a 'step' in it, but it fits perfectly).

We drew our kitchen out on graph paper, used things like the ikea planner and eventually used google sketchup to make sure it was exactly right.

I have been to DIY Kitchens factory and showroom and it is very impressive. They don't have the dark grey handleless gloss we are after so we might go with Howdens or Ikea.

I had no issues walking into our local Howdens, getting a quote directly based upon one of their regular fitters account discounts (to get the highest) for supply. I didn't even end up using that particular fitter. They came out, measured up, double checked, and tweaked where necessary.

Can't really fault them- price was okay and they were open about all their pricing/discount. I then got a builder to fit it. With a few minor extra bits that were required the fitter then just popped five minutes down the road and all sorted off the shelf.
