Cost of a carrier/courier

Hi ere
Looking for some basic information regarding the cost of a carrier/courier. I would like to send seven plastic crates of books and a sewing machine to a student 200 miles away in college.
Many thanks!:j

You probably want to look at something like pallet delivery (you need to provide the pallet) - would cost about £40 - £50 I expect.

Google for an online quotation. There is quite a variation in rates and criteria.

Interparcel are a factor house for most national couriers, try there, but you need sizes and weights to get an accurate price otherwise it's per pallet load so try Palletwise or similar
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Google .. man and van type services, you'll have quotes back in a few minutes, but wait a few hours and the prices get lower.

If you've seen Shipping Wars on TV, it's similar to that.

I reckon a pallet is the way forward. Our company now has fixed pricing for sending pallets but when we first started sending them we just contacted our local Palletforce member (there are also Palletways, Palletline and others) to get a price. Usually £60 - £65 per pallet for next day delivery.

Make sure you specify tail-lift at collection and delivery (unless you have got a forklift truck in your garage)

You will have to provide your own pallet and you will need to shrink wrap it (the industrial size cling film that makes you feel extremely dizzy after walking round the pallet with it several times) to make sure it is secured to the pallet.

However I am fairly sure there has been at least once where they have brought a pallet and shrink wrap and done it for me!!!!

You simply phone to agree a price (before 10am delivery usually a £10 to £15 surcharge) and then email them the full collection and delivery addresses. You can pay with debit card (before collection)

Do you have a driveway or somewhere level and hard (not gravel etc) that the driver can access with his pallet truck?

Drive them in the car? About £60 (assuming 40mpg).
