Plant/Weed ident please

Been away from forum for awhile as I was involved in a car accident, someone went into the back of me. Bumper damage but its taken a lot out of me mentally (can't go on the road where I had the accident) ,my right shoulder/arm not yet 100% plus dealing with other party, my insurance, repair and car hire etc etc very stressful.

Anyway dad took me to visit my brother and he noticed this plant today its about 18 inches high. What is it?

Looks a lot like Himalayan Balsam.

That's himalayan balsam. Quite invasive- exploding seed pods etc. Easy to pull up but make sure you don't put it on the ground or in compost etc. It's a big problem on nature reserves, especially by water courses and they have volunteer parties to pull it, where it's usually 'hung' in trees to die

stem looks too thick to be Himalayan Balsam, but I guess thats the problem with photos that don't have anything to judge size in.

Base of plant stem - at tarmac was about 2cm diameter. Plant is outside his property but where one of his neighbours puts their recycling when is gets collected. Sorry I didn't think to take picture with tape measure or put something next to for scale

If it is Himalayan Balsam should I just pull it out, bag it up and put in his household waste or spray with a weedkiller first? these are what I have resolva 24hr (blue bottle) @ his house, resolva xtra tough (black bottle) @ my parents home or should I go for the strong rosate 36 (if so what ratio) @ my bungalow.

Hemp nettle possibly? Google square stemmed plants.

    Another vote for Himalayan Balsam.

Grows from ankle high to over my head in a matter of two weeks, down by the river.

At that size, just pull up and dispose. Then watch for any more. No big problem..... until they seed!
