Stray cat in outbuilding

We came home from two days away to find a mewing sound coming from the outside. We have two cats and I know there are another two cats from my neighbour and several other cats live nearby. I worried that it might be a hurt cat so I spent ages looking for this cat but every time I went outside the mewing stops.

Anyway today I notice a new cat poking its nose out through a gap in the broken door of our outbuilding. The hole is perfect cat size so it makes sense its home for a stray cat.

Anyways excuse the rambling but I was hoping for some advice. I put water down and a few dry biscuits but I am not sure what to do for the best. I know we need to trap the cat to make sure its neutered but then what to do? If we take it to a shelter then I cant see it having much luck. But we have two sensitive rescue cats (brothers) and adding a feral cat to the mix sounds like a really bad idea.

You really need to trap the cat so it can be checked for a microchip first and foremost. It isn't necessarily feral, could be someone's pet who is lost and scared. The cats protection league usually have humane traps available.

Even if it is a feral cat, homes as pest control/ farm cats can be found. There is hope.

you don't know its 'feral', it could be a stray or lost. I think you should take Zebra's advice.

Ifyour 2 rescue cats haven't taken offence at the new arrival, there's no reason why the newbie can't stay living in the outbuilding, with you feeding it there so as not to encourage it in the house. Fingers crossed though that it's a microchipped lost pet.
