Lighting advice - please

I have recently had a (much needed) extension added to the back of my house. The rooms which were originally at the back (dining room & kitchen) are now unbearably dark. Both rooms currently have pendant lighting but now need much much more.
My question is - who could give the best advice on this? An interior designer? An electrician? An architect?
Can anyone help with this please?
Thank you :)

An electrician would be best placed to give you advice on the practicalities of putting in new lights, and an idea of the cost. I would have thought an interior designer is a bit overkill ?

Have you thought about those "light tube" thingies ? Basically they let sunlight into the room via a tube in the roof. Not suitable for all situations, but my parents have one in a dark corner of their lounge, it works really well. Let me see if I can find a link ......

Here we go, this kind of thing :

    http://www.solatube.com/

I'm not recommending that particular company at all, it's just a good example of the kind of thing I'm talking about :-) I just googled for "Light Tubes" - there's probably plenty of companies that will do them.

thanks for that ebe scrooge. I know an interior designer sounds a bit over the top, lol but I just meant would they be more able to advise on the type of lighting which might work best for us :)
I really like the idea of the solatube & I think it might be a good solution for the kitchen. Not sure if it would work for the dining room though, unfortunately.
Really appreciate the link, thanks & I'll look into it more thoroughly :)
