my partner and i have lived together for 8 years, we have been discussing wills as his children assume that if he dies everything goes to them...bearing in mind its my home, we also have a joint bank account, i don't work my partner is the bread winner....but some-one told him that if he passed away his kids would be entitled to the money that's in our joint account?
Is this true...can they do this?
The only money we have in our account is hes wages, we don't have any other savings.
please can you advise me as hes kids think that whats their fathers belongs to them, this makes me feel very insecure as the home we live in is council rented and everything in it is mostly mine
My partner tells me that they cant take anything from the property as its my belongings...who`s right?
Hes kids are all grown up living in their own homes...
Thank you so much in advance

Anything in a joint account automatically belongs to to the other account holder on death, so nothing to worry about there. Any property he owns in his own name, may well go to his children.
He should make a will though - if you are not married, it will save any arguments if/when the time comes.
As a "partner" you have very little legal protection - there is no such thing as a common law wife/husband in England/Wales (contrary to what many people think)0 -
Whose name is the tenancy agreement in? If not joint, I'd check pdq what would happen on the death of the 'other'.
But you're right to make wills: it's true that money in joint accounts generally passes outside the estate to the other account holder, but other items don't, and you can do without an argument over who things belong to.Signature removed for peace of mind0
