Changing the layout of an old loft conversion

We currently have a bedroom/ensuite in our loft - was built about 15 years ago and was regularised for BR recently.

Is it possible to change the layout e.g. to smaller bedroom and study without involving BR?

It's worth asking Building Control. It costs nothing to ask.

There are rules about escape in the case of fire. A bathroom isn't covered by this but a study would be - it might be covered by fire doors already in place etc but it's possible that a roof window might need to be enlarged.

great, thanks - i will get in touch with BR.

The conversion would likely retain the access door at the top of the stairs, and create a small hallway beyond that with doors to the new rooms.

The regularisation of the existing conversion was (afaik) carried out according to BR rules that existed in 1998 when it was converted. Presumably any modifications might mean the whole loft as planned will have to adhere to 2014 BRs?
