Money Moral Dilemma: Should I take my garden plants to my new home?

Lots of the plants in my garden have been given to me by family/friends who are no longer alive so I'd take those.
I've grown loads from cuttings. Plants that cost me a lot of money & I have lovingly looked after. So yes I would take a lot of plants from MY garden. I'd start planting up pots when I initally decided to move. I would also write it into the small print of the sales details that not all plants would be left in situ. When I moved into the house there was not a lot planted so I have created an expensive plot.
Sometimes new owners completely dig up gardens anyway to build their design. I'd hate to think of the plants going to the tip.0 -
No way unless you've told them when they are viewing your property.
I moved into one house where there was a beautiful bed full of flowers in the middle of the front garden - it really made the house.
When I arrived at the house the whole bed had gone - I was very upset and angry.0 -
Similar to what everyone else had said, I think it depends on what stage of the sale you are at. If it is not yet on the market, the yes absolutely - as long as you are clear from day 1 that you will be taking the plants with you. I'd also say you should say you will "make good" what you take, i.e. don't leave big holes and maybe replace the plants you are taking with some cheap bedding plants.
But if you have already moved forward and have put the house on the market or even had an offer, then it might be too late. No harm in discussing with the agent or potential buyer though.0 -
My plants are all coming with me!0

You only state "moving", not whether it's a house sale, etc.
If you've SOLD your house, check with the buyer, obviously.
If you're in rented accommodation or similar then yes take them :-)0 -
You must state clearly in the legal documents what you are taking. Why not take cuttings from your plants and split any perennials? That would seem a lot less drastic.0

Take the plants and the turf. Also if there is a tree in the garden uproot it. :-)))))
What a hilarious dilemma!! Do people really take plants with them when they move??? Wow I am lost for words :-/0 -
It would depend on many things
1/ The buyer MUST be informed of this. To be ethical, you should volunteer this information at viewing stage.
2/ What price range you are selling your house at. If it's more than just a basic 2 up 2 down, then a buyer could consider it very stingy and it could put some buyers off. Why not add the value of the plants to the price of your house instead, so that you can use the extra money to start again on your new garden.
3/ Bear in mind, some plants don't do very well if moved.
I am buying a house and the seller is taking all their lights and curtains with them. It hasn't stopped me buying it, but it did mean I reduced my offer on the price so I can then go out and buy new lights and curtains with the money I saved. Admittedly, I was a bit shocked at this at first.
In the end, as long as potential buyers are made aware you're taking your plants with you, you've been honest and ethical., then it's the buyers decision if they accept this, reduce their offer or go elsewhere.
Personally, it's a bit bizarre to me to take the plants. It's like putting expensive wallpaper up and trying to unpeel it and take it with you.0 -

There's tight and then there's tight as ducks whatnot. Besides in this heat they will probably be dead by time you get them back in the ground alway's supposing that you are moving to a house with the right soil, acid/alcaline.0
