I take a few pegs. Towels over the balcony, peg towel to itself to stop it floating away...

Also sachets of kiddy medicine. Usually needed at some point. I take our own sunscreen but tend to buy shampoo / shower gel out there.

And, laugh if you will, a small paint brush. My MIL showed me its a fab easy way of getting sand out from between tiny toes to stop the grumpy walk home from the beach...

  • I was recommended to photocopy the details page of our passports and keep the photocopy separate. Never had to use it for a passport loss (thank goodness) but once put our luggage in an Italian left luggage office, lost the receipt, nearly missed the train back but, as our photos were in a suitcase, we got the luggage and caught the train! Those Italian officials were not easy to persuade even to look inside the bag...job's worth I think...:o

I print out/photocopy 2 copies of any tickets, passes etc that we have bought in advance and have 2 separate identical folders, one kept in hand luggage and one in a case. I was paranoid when we went to Orlando that i would lose the (very expensive!) tickets so this was my backup.

    Medicines!

I take half a carrier bag full of "essential" medicines - so we won't need to go to a GP abroad as they cost a fortune!

I take antibiotics, loads of pain killers, anti inflamatories (I've needed them before!), and bottles of kaolin & morphine - best thing I know for when you get the holiday stomach upset with diarrhea and stomach cramps, it cures it within 20 minutes! - elastoplast, bandage, sling

You may think it's too much but I'd rather err on the side of caution and have it all to hand should the need arise! It's all come in use and is my absolute holiday essential.
to tell the truth, that is quite sensible. wish i had done it once or twice.. may do on my next holiday coming up in sept.
Corduroy pillows are making headlines! Back home in London now after 27years wait! Duvet know it's Christmas, not original, it's a cover.

Where can you get kaolin & morphine? I agree it was brilliant but I haven't seen any around since I was a kid. Do they keep it - ahem - 'under the counter?' and you have to tip them the wink?

And have you ever had any problems taking it through customs overseas (the morphine element...?)
If you go into a supermarket and go tot the Pharmacy, just ask them, it is behind the counter, or they can make it up for you.

Just think it is a gimmick now, don't think it has morphine in it, if it does, is a minute amount

EDIT, it does have morphine in it. lol here is a link for some to buy.

B & M Bargains for small suncreams - (£1.99) - big enough with a couple of different factors for 2 persons for a week.
Primark - £1 for a bag of empty travel bottles - perfect to decant shampoo, wash liquid, conditioner, & tiny containers for face cream etc - far cheaper than the mini sizes on sale in Boots etc.
A couple of J Cloths (they weigh nothing) - you never know what you have to mop up!
Primark again for large & lightweight beach towels.
Pegs & a line - that way you can cut the amount of underwear/clothes you pack.
A tiny torch in case you arrive in darkness - Greece in particular is subject to power cuts.
Finally & Most essentially - a corkscrew! for those late nights on the balcony ♥

Thanks for that - I'll get some.
Pharmacy First does it too, at £1.15 per bottle, but there's p&p unless you spend over £40.
Yes, it does indeed have morphine in it, and you can only buy one bottle at a time..

As well as many of the above, I like to take pocket sized packs of tissues and travel wipes. My DH swears by Aldi's insect repellent wipes.

One tip is to get take a packed meal to eat on the plane and get another made up at your hotel or in a local caf! for the journey back. I hate being ripped off for food while waiting at airports, Dalaman being one of the worst.

I buy bottled water in Boots at the airport using Vantage points but noticed they had a water fountain in Gatwick last month so may take an empty bottle through in future.
