Issue with merchant - What can I do?

Hello guys,
Sorry if this is in the wrong place, feel free to move it.
This is a weird one, I just need some advice on what I can do if anything.
As a leaving present from my last work place, I got given a hotel voucher valid for 4 months. I phoned the hotel stating I wont be able to make it within these months because of university and that can I redeem it later on in the year. He said yes that's fine.
I've now been trying to get in contact with them for weeks, no one is picking up the phone, answering messages or anything.
I just phoned Groupon (who the deal was purchased from) they advised there is nothing they can do about it as the voucher expired in January. I explained that I spoke to the manager and he said I could redeem it later, but they said that is between you and the hotel, as far as they are concerned the deal has expired.
According to Groupon, the merchant had a few problems around January and said they will extend everything to April as they were refurbishing the place.
Anyway, I can't get hold of the merchant, and Groupon said they can't do anything from their end. It seems that the merchant no longer has a website either.
Is there anything I can do about this? Get another deal or anything?
