Credit cards in Germany are available, but certainly not as widespread as in the UK. They often operate more like a charge card. i.e. You get a monthly bill that must be repaid in full.
Prepaid credit cards are also available - these are known as Geldkarte (money card), but are quite rare.
Debit cards in Germany are usually called EC-Cards (Eurocheque-Karte) and also sometimes Girocard, and are much more widely accepted.
However, cash is still often the preferred method of payment over much of Germany.0 -

Thank you all for all the advice and tips, I am going down to my bank today to see if they will issue me with a Maestro card. If I cant get one should I enter my debit card details on the site where they EC card or credit card?

thanks to everyone who posted:) I managed to enter my debit details on the credit card section and it was accepted, I hope that will be enough on the day and that I wont be thrown of the train :P thanks for all the advice, I've had enough credit card stress for a lifetime:L0
