Wood burning stove and neighbours

Can someone tell me if a neighbour puts in a wood burning stove can I complain to the council that the smoke is worse than the existing coal fire that it replaced and comes across my property.
We are in neighbouring bungalows with a driveway distance between us we are not in a smokeless zone.

    Since you are not in a smokeless fuel area you cannot stop him burning wood.

    Just out of interest, can I ask in what way the some is bothersome? I ask this because I have been thinking of getting a wood-burning stove, and was not aware that they can be a nuisance.

    There are now 3 in our small cul-de-sac. There are a few annoyances:

    * amount of dust (ash) landing on the cars
    * everything stinks of smoke
    * they're constantly blocking the street with trailers used to collect wood/whole trees to burn
    * they've not got chimneys so they have metres upon metre of ridiculous metal tubing all over their houses.

    I think you exaggerate somewhat.

    Just those 2 then.

    Blocking off street is debatable on times of day etc for me anyway.

    There are building regs regarding the minimum height and distance from roof to allow good smoke dissipation.

    If cars in the street get plenty of ash then there is a problem, perhaps with what is burnt. Perhaps they use the stove to burn their newspapers/junk mail...

    Come round next winter and see. My car is black, but not between November and February. ;)

    Interesting replies thanks , I had thought about building regs but the bungalows are 1979 and were built with chimneys however they are 10 foot to the eave and then a further six foot above which takes them just above the ridges so not tall chimneys and on the side so the layout goes bungalow with chimney driveway then next doors is the same but handed so two chimneys are facing each other .

    Husband says we should get one as it's a prevailing westerly and we would have the advantage

    Thanks for replies
