You would be better of not getting a credit card, avoid PD loans, keep on top of mobile contracts and try to save a bit each month. I got a credit card 18 years ago on my 18th birthday, I was young and reckless and it's only now I'm in a position to be able to get a Mortgage at a decent rate. Be careful0

I'm assuming the main reason you'll need credit is in the future for a mortgage on a house and that you're trying to build some decent history.
I agree with others regarding pay day loan and you effectively prove that your money wasn't managed well as you needed them. I appreciate that may not have been a choice but thats the fact.
One point that I haven't seen in my brief scan on this thread (I may have missed it), is that doing lots of applications in a short space of time is very bad. It lessens your chance as I guess lenders see it as desperation. Your best bet is to probably wait a few months before applying again.
Have a look at the guides on the main website, you should find them pretty useful. Most importantly, make sure you are on the electoral roll. I believe you can now do this online.0 -
Only get a credit card if you will pay it off each month, only have a sensible limit eg a wage of say £900 but a limit of say £1500 isnt a good idea as you could get carried away and have problems. Only get 1 if your going to be sensible with it, its not essential you get 1. Maybe wait a while before you apply for another 1.0

Although it might be contradictory for me to say because I have taken out PDLs, but aren't these companies for cards also to be avoided for the same reason as PDLS I have heard in the past that you can get stung pretty badly from them?
And as for PDLS I always knew they were to be avoided and was reluctant to use them - but found myself having no choice.
How long would you consider to be enough from the banks perspective?
Thanks
You can only get stung if you don't repay them in full. If you repay in full, you don't pay any interest.
Just put normal purchases on a card. Don't spend the money you would have spent, but save it instead, ready to pay your credit card bill. E.g. pay for your £50 petrol on credit card and save the cash you would've spent, ready to pay off your credit card bill.
Some people find it hard not to spend on the card. If you think you're one of these people, you'll need willpower not to overspend and to pay it back in full every month. What will your verse be?

And to the OP, have you tried the credit card acceptance checker? Give this a try, it doesn't hit your credit rating to use it -> https://www.moneysupermarket.com/credit-cards/search/?selectedProductId=CC_AQUA_CLASSIC&goal=CC_CREDITBUILDER0 -
If you don't actually need the credit at the moment it's probably best to forget the credit card thing, a well run current account with a long and clear history will really help boost your credit worthiness and as more time passed since you settled the loans that will also help.
In my experience your own bank is likely to be your best shot at lending to you, maybe not right now but in the future. If you are still thinking the credit card route is the way you want to go then try Capital One, they gave me my first credit card with a low limit when I was in a similar situation to you.
Good luck!0
