No PAC testing required if it's brand new.......... In fact, if they kicked off about this, it would almost be worth buying a new only annually!

    PAT (Portable Appliance Test) ;)
"Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."

This document is guidance - the provision of a microwave in respect of the OP's workplace is not necessarily an absolute requirement.

    Absolutely.

When I first started reading this thread, my first thoughts were that the employer was behaving in a puerile manner, however, it seems that if some workers seem incapable of conforming to a basic and simple requirement, perhaps the employer is justified.

So you are assuming that all appliances by virtue of being brand new are safe? I can assure you that this is not the case. There are some cheap imported items (particularly from China) on the market nowadays and I have tested some brand new items that have failed their test.

A new item of electrical equipment should ideally be registered to enable an inspection/maintenace schedule. A PAT test takes seconds to do and with modern testing equipment and associated software, a bar coded label can be stuck to the item and be placed on a register to simplify maintenance.

There is no legal requirement to PAT test any item of electrical equipment but can form part of a good maintenance schedule.
