Hard wired smoke alarm

Hi all, gone to replace one of my hard wired smoke alarms, but the wires on the diagram are different to the wires I have! I've got a red and yellow wire and it refers to two different colours!
Anyway, I've elected to get an electrician out so just screwed them into the two available holes, this should be ok shouldn't it? Turned the power back on and no issues, just looking for someone to confirm there's not harm or fire risk as I don't want to leave the wires exposed.

Are there any test buttons you can press to see if it works?0

I've not fitted the alarm yet as it needs another hole drilling to fix in place. Just want to know its not going to set the place on fire, got an electrician coming tomorrow evening.0

Is it a stand alone alarm or is it interconnected to your other alarms so that, if one alarm is triggered, all the alarms sound?
If it is a singleton, then the only cable will be the power supply. The terminals should be marked positive and negative, plus earth if it needs to be earthed.
Can you not compare the wiring to that in your other alarms?0
