Learner Driver Insurance For Over 30s

Hi, Im having problems finding learner driver insurance for my wife and I was hoping for some help. Here is the problem:
My wife is in her 30s and learning to drive, she has her driving test on 21st July and I was looking for temprory learner insurance so she can be allowed to drive my car. The car I have got is a Mini cooper S convertable which is classed as catogory 32 car and every single insurance as one problem to another and cant seem to get anywhere. Most insurances only do ages 17-25, some only do upto catogory 29, The closest that I have come is with provisionalmarmalade everything was going perfect then the women on the phone made an excuse about my car being a convertable, but why would this matter as the car is coverered by my insurance and it is just simply a cas of my wife just being allowed to practice with me in the car on the run in to her driving test but I am finding it an impossible test, is there anyone with any ideas on the situation, much appreciated

Perhaps you are asking the insurance company too much to add unecessary complications.
You are adding a driver who happens to be on a provisional license.

They aren't just giving "legal" cover, but covering your car comprehensively when she drives it.

Your insurance is not involved whilst she drives.

I see your point, but what i meant from it is whay would being a convertable matter whilst she drives?? it wont make her any different to her driving in anyway, the only way it would make a difference is that when it is parked unattended meaning that I am responsible for this and the provisional insurance wont be involved as I am the legal owner of the car so it would be my insurance that I would contact if I am unable to fix it myself. My wife wouldnt be able to drive without me sat in the car either so by being a convertable wouldnt make any difference. Surely there is a way around this problem as insurance companies are quite happy to insure teenagers who are more likely to be more daring on the road rather than more cautious as an over 30s would be

Why don't you just add an additional driver to your policy? 30-ish year old female driver with a provisional licence for x number of months/years?

They'll probably add £100+ to the premium (depending how far you are into your policy). And then you can remove her from the policy whenever you want. Should that be the case, you'll also get a partial refund on the original increase in the premium.

This was my first option and I thought it would be simple to add a provisional driver to my policy, however they said something to do with they couldnt due to underwriters and told me to get temp cover on a provisional and when i did that I am facing more problems and complicating things.

    Im getting replies like these:
We are unable to provide you with a quote.

We have analysed the data from your application and unfortunately we are not able to provide you with a learner insurance quotation at this time

    You cannot proceed!

    Exception

    • Some of the details provided have resulted in our underwriters being unable to provide the cover.
We are sorry we can only quote for 17 and 18 year olds for new policies and 17, 18 and 19 year olds for renewals in this area.

Its like Ive hit a brick wall

If you have tried and failed all the marmalade type/temporary companies then you may be left with having to change your insurer.

Though this will involve cancellation charges and no ncd for the part year of cover.
