the non-refundable registration fee

Hi, I want to attend a particular charity event to sell some of my goods. As part of the fee I have to agree to pay a non-refundable registration fee of £25.00, which is to cover their admin costs, advertising etc. Further on it states - if the event is cancelled - a full refund is given. It seems odd that they split the charge and nowhere is it clearly stated that they would actually refund the registration fee. Is there a legal requirement for them to refund all the money or all the money minus the registration fee?

Thanks in advance.:)

Sounds like its a b2b contract rather than a consumer one.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

The simplest thing would be to ask them if the registration fee is refunded in the event of cancellation. One would assume that even if the event is cancelled they would possibly have still incurred the admin costs/advertising etc that your fee would go towards.
  • Not sure what that means so I'll rephrase.

On the terms and conditions it states a non-refundable admin fee is required as part of the purchase fee charged by the vendor.

In the event of a cancellation, by the vendor, a full refund will be given.

    My question is :

Is the vendor obliged to refund the the entire amount OR the entire amount minus the non-refundable registration fee?

It sounds like you are a business rather than a consumer, so consumer law does not apply. There is a possibility that it may still be considered unfair for them not to refund, but I wouldn't rely on that. Businesses are mostly free to negotiate their own contract terms, and are not protected in the same way consumers are.

So in short, if their terms and conditions say the fee is not refundable if the event is cancelled then that is probably ok.

It seemed to me that the fee is non-refundable if you decide to pull out, but if they cancel the event then they'd refund.
    I don't know if that's right, but it's how I read it.
