Help me Help my mum

I don't know where to start...

My Mum and Dad split up a few years ago and my mum got into a relationship and married pretty quickly. This person bought my dad out of his share of the family home that they'd owned for over 20 years.

Now my mum and her new husband are splitting up and he's insisting the house is sold and won't let my mum buy him out.

Last night things turned sour and he started drinking and being verbally abusive to my mum, my mum locked her self in her room but he then started smashing up the house and banging his head on walls. My mum called for an ambulance as she was concerned for him (she's far too nice for her own good) any way the person on the phone could hear all the banging he was making and called the police. He refused to leave and no one would take him so they said they'd arrest him, but my mum being too kind said she would leave instead and stayed somewhere else.

Now this is where I need your help obviously my mum needs to get back to the house but is afraid to go back, she has work this week and needs her uniform.

Ideally we want to get him out the house as this has all been his doing, but now my mum is suffering. any advice as to what we can do would be appreciated.

None of us live at home any more but the family dog is still there who I have concerns for his welfare too.
