I started investing in ITs around a year ago, and now hold a few as follows:

Ruffer Investment Company - for downside protection (along with the Troy Trojan OEIC)

Scottish Mortgage and Foreign & Colonial- for low cost general equity exposure

Henderson Smaller Cos and F&C Global Foreign Companies - for low cost smaller co exposure

Aberdeen Asian Income and Scottish Oriental Smaller Cos - for emerging market exposure

Blackrock Frontiers Investment Trust - for a bit of spice

John Laing Environmental Assets - to sit alongside my First State Global Listed Infrastructure as a 'safe' infrastructure holding

TR Property Trust - for property exposure alongside another within my pension fund

So far I'm pretty impressed with performance.

The Henderson, Scottish Mortgage and TR Property have done particularly handsomely and I wish I could have afforded to put more in at the time, as you do.

The only 'loser' has been the Aberdeen Asian Income (not surprisingly and I will continue to hold), RICA has not done much (but as would be expected in a rising market) and F&C has risen but been disappointing, not sure why that hasn't done better when equity markets have been so buoyant!

    Only four so far:

    Aberdeen Latin American Income
    Henderson Far East Income
    HICL Infrastructure Co Ord
    UK Commercial Property Trust

Would like to get more but not too keen on equity buying at the moment. Most likely candidate is Black Rock World Mining.

Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • Just a couple for me as part of a wider portfolio.

Advance Frontiers - Bit of fun and spice, prefer it's geographical focus compared to the Blackrock one.

Henderson Value Trust - Under new management (well relatively new now) for hopefully potential for a turnaround after truly dire performance.

Thanks for your replies!! Interested to hear more on why some of you chose the ones you did. And why these over UTs (or in general why these as part of a balanced investment strategy)?

Why do you think ITs are rarely discussed?

The likes of Hargreaves are steering us towards these and ETFs as max fee per year is capped at £45 for holding these.

There are SO many (admittedly less than the number of UTs) it's hard to choose... at least with the Vanguard Lifestyle UT, there was one easy choice for me!

As per title - interested to hear what ITs you hold as I rarely hear these discuss here.

    Thanks!
The real question surely is what you pay for what you hold?
