i got one for our cat, showed her how to use it and she's had no problems
i got a smell nuetralizer from pets at home which prevents it from getting too smelly0 -
I have two huge ginger boys and I have one covered and one uncovered. They both prefer uncovered but that's because if they are doing a number 2 they like to sit really straight and the lid of the covered one even though it's a huge tray is a bit too low. I keep meaning to buy some cheap furniture and do a modification like this disguised litter box

I changed from a normal litter tray to a hooded one with no issues, I didn't even need to take the door off. Make sure it's big enough to allow movement inside - Tikka will go round and round in circles before she does "her stuff".
I guess it's personal to each cat though.0 -
I'm sure you already know, but it helps if they need the smell to work out what it's for, so put some of the old used litter into the new one0
