Hi - received an email from e on who supply gas and electricity to our 4 bedroom new build house advising that from August they will up my direct debit from £95 - £195 per month! I provide them with accurate bi-monthly readings, our gas usage for hearings not been used since Early March and electricity usage is standard to any other household.
Does this seem unreasonable? I have sent in a complaint to them and will phone them Monday morning

See the thread on Energy Costs for a 4 Bed House
I am with Eon and they have advised me of a reduction in my DD for my 4 bed.
Have a look at Eon's online billing - that gives you the facility to set your own DD and includes a calculator to show the effect of varying your DD>Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Good morning Yates78
I'm sure we can help you try and explain things here.
For the Direct Debit payments to jump like this it sounds like your £95 hasn't been enough to cover the amount of energy that you're using.
The first thing to do is to check that you've been billed up to accurate meter reads. I know you say you've been providing these, but have we used them to bill.
Look at past bills, has a debit balance been building up? Have we been using estimated or accurate reads?
The payments are normally increased to cover your ongoing usage and pay off any balance owing over a few months.
Do you have an online account? If so you can pop your own reads on there and request a bill or just a balance. You can also change your Direct Debit on there as well, using the Direct Debit manager.
To be honest £95 per month for a 4 bed for both gas and electricity does sound a bit on the low side.
We need to establish if a balance has built up and why, we may also be able to offer a slighter longer period of time to pay this back.
Also have a look at the tariffs.
Hope this helps a little.

How new is your new build house.
If you've got records of all your meter readings from the day you moved in you should be able to do your own sums and tell Eon what you should be paying.
Just saying you haven't used much gas and your leccy is standard, isn't any help at all. You need to do the calculations on actual consumption as indicated by the meters. Anything else is just guessing and Eons guess is a as good or as bad as anyone elses.
As the Eon rep says, make sure your bills are being based on actual meter readings and not just estimates. The fact that you are submitting them doesn't necessarily mean that they are using them.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
