ESA Back Payment

Hi all, wonder if anyone can help?
My friend's son has just died and she is arranging the funeral. He was on ESA when he died and was in the process of being assessed for the higher amount due to being bedridden. She has had a letter now stating that he is due to a very large amount of back payment. DWP have now been informed that he has died and the letter must have been sent out before they were notified. My question is: will this money still be paid now that her son has died?
She has applied for a funeral payment from DWP because she is on benefits.
Will this money (if it is paid to her) be used towards settlement of the funeral payment.
I hope this makes sense.

The money will form part of his estate and therefore can be used to pay for the funeral.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -
