Parking fine from Parking Eye for Aldi

I received a letter today saying that I have a parking fine for parking in an Aldi car park two weeks ago. It has a picture of my car entering and then leaving the car park 40 minutes later. There was a sign in the car park saying to register your number plate in store, which I unfortunately did not do. Although I have not got my receipt for my Aldi shopping I did pay by card so can prove that I spent around £60 in store on this day. As it is a separate company fining me is there anything I can do? Really annoyed with myself, but £70 fine (£40 if paid early) is a lot of money. Any advise would be appreciated.

Send a letter of general appeal to PE with a redacted copy of your credit card/bank statement for purchases on the day. Under normal circumstances they cancel charges where £30 or more has been spent (although you won't find any of that on their signs!).

If you do get a rejection of this, then be prepared to send a formal initial appeal, as per the NEWBIES sticky at the top of the forum index.

Come back if there are any problems after following above advice.

I have altered your post to the correct wording as nobody has been fined here as only a court of law or judge can actually fine you (so stop using this 4 letter f word please)

clearly you missed the sticky thread for NEWBIES at the top of this forum , please read it

aldi and PE come up daily on here

so appeal to PE and complain to aldi and get it cancelled , simple as that

if it goes any further a, appeal to popla and get it cancelled , same as hundreds of others do

    hope that helps

Without Aldis express permission this company could not operate in Aldis car parks.
In fact its highly likely that they are Aldis Agents, and as a result Aldi are responsible for their actions

So you should challenge it with parking eye, and complain bitterly ( but politely ) to Aldi, take a read of the newbies thread, and if Aldi dig their heels in re-write the section about the possibility of claiming costs from the parking company should your popla appeal be successful to target Aldi as well

Dear Aldi, should you continue to allow your agents to pursue this matter further and onwards towards POPLA, and should the POLA assessor rule in my favour then i may claim my costs against you as I am holding you liable for the actions of your agents/contractors Parking eye, although not exhaustive......

Is there anything you can do? Of course... That's what this entire forum is about! Also of course you must complain to the Store Manager and Aldi Facebook/Head Office.

Can't believe you are annoyed with YOURSELF and not Aldi & ParkingEye for this fake fine. You can't have seen this thread (below) which has been active for a whole YEAR, almost every day with new additions!

As ever, this is covered in the 'NEWBIES, Private parking ticket, old or new?' sticky thread at the top of this parking forum - which is why I wrote it. Sadly, last year it got silly as we could not keep up with all the ''help I have got a private parking ticket, what do I do?'' threads so I wrote a sticky thread BEGGING newbies to 'read these FAQS first'. Because everyone can win at appeal, it's fairly simple too!

ParkingEye should just cancel when they get sent the appeal template from the NEWBIES thread with a copy of your Aldi receipt or Bank Statement. If not then the sticky tells you how to win at POPLA and explains what that is... :)

  • Thanks for the comments. Found the newbies thread and read that which was also very helpful. Went into the Aldi store today with the parking charge notice and a bank statement and the Assistant Manager was very obliging. He said that they would get it cancelled straight away.:j

Prepare an appeal just in case you don't get notification of cancellation in time. Just the basic one from the newbies thread will do. If you don't get notification within a week or so send it off to cover your back.
Newbie thread: go to the top of this page and find these words: Main site > MoneySavingExpert.com Forums > Household & Travel > Motoring > Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. Click on words Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. Newbie thread is the first post. Blue New Thread button is just above it to left.

You need the notice of cancellation from PE rather than Aldi.

Despite what we generally think of PE, they do seem to be sensible enough to dip out where an Aldi customer has spent >£30.

We have yet to see any PE/Aldi victim taken to court (despite 'scary' LBA/LBCCCs) as I suspect there is definitely an Aldi 'line in the sand' which PE dare not cross.

This heightened PE activity at Aldi has been going on for more than a year (19/6/13 since I started the PE/Aldi thread, with now well in excess of 2,000 posts) and absolutely no sign of court papers/appearances, whereas other venues have generated PE court papers within a few weeks of the parking event.

It makes me wonder whether we should be advising 'ignore' before too long on PE/Aldi PCNs?

I can confirm that I to had Parking Eye Aldi PCN and i followed the newbie thread and did as instructed using the online appeal, however i did follow it up in writing as i don't trust them. I also had a receipt for £35 which i sent them and I've just got an email confirming that they have cancelled it. I will however be complaining to the Aldi MD ( i believe there are two) about Parking Eye. In fact i feel like going to that certain Aldi in my car but cover up my number plate in and out……….lol
