Gas enigma.

Hi all,
Can anyone help some friends of mine, they have found themselves in
a strange situation.
They moved into a bungalow about 4 wks ago, they approached scotish
power to supply their gas, as they had been their supplier at their
previous address.Scotish power say they will not supply their gas, because
they can not provide the name of the previous supplier to their new home.
They have phoned the young lady who was the last occupant of the propery, she said british gas was her supplier, so they contacted British gas,
who said they were not the last suppliers,so my friends contacted the young
lady again, she said she did not know about the gas supplier, as the ex partner, who is no longer around, dealt with all the bills. So they are
in the awful predigament, that they are recieving gas but dont know where
from.So far they have had nothing but bad luck, since they moved in,they
have found all sorts of things wrong in the bungalow.This is the latest
thing, they are very upset.
has anyone any ideas PLEASE.
