Which drive?

Hi all, interesting threads on here, all helping with our house reno at the mo!
What we are struggling with is a decent price for our driveway. It's almost 100m2, and are even struggling with what material to go for. We have pretty bad drainage round our way anyway, diggers had fun digging footings in clay!
OH likes printed concrete, I don't... OH does not like gravel, I do... Quotes for block paving are too high £8k+!
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

Printed concrete will be more expensive than block paving. What's ur budget?

Gravel with a small block paving border often looks nice, if drainage is bad it means you won't need to add drainage either.

what is the drive covered with at present?

the law has changed regarding paving over front gardens and even if you replace an existing drive you have to comply with the new planning regs regarding SUDS (sustainable urban drainage systems)
If the surface to be covered is more than five square metres planning permission will be needed for laying traditional, impermeable driveways that do not provide for the water to run to a permeable area.

so you need to provide a soak away or run off on to a grass or gravel area the will cope with the water from 100 sq meters

you cant now divert run off into surface water drains or foul water drains

your idea of gravel may be the best way to go to avoid problems with planning

We have Tarmac with gravel bits thrown in for colour and block paving edges.

I saw it on another house and realised it looked good, cheaper than block paving.

Beware printed concrete. Several houses round my way had it, in almost all cases the surface has become damaged and it looks awful.

I can't post photos, sorry, inept.

We had the front of the house ,and path down the middle, block paved. As it meets the drive, we have one row of blocks edging/ framing it. Then chippings of the same colour breaking up Tarmac.

Had it done in 2003, so can't remember cost. We have a big bungalow, so along the front was quite a lot. I meant the bit before the garden, not the whole front. That would have bankrupted us!
