Double glazing guarantees

Hi all.

We've just moved house and want to replace all of the windows. 10 windows plus a bay window with 5 panels, a sliding patio door, a rear door and a front door. We've had a few quotes.
Safe style - started at £30k and got them down to £7k- but don't like the company and their ethics. (Some old dear woukd get conned into paying the ful, price). And people have told me that they have in the past fitted c rated windows when a rated were paid for.
Ultimate UK-£7.5k-and I think the guarantee is for 30 years
Lifestyle Designs good quote at £7k but they only give a guarantee of 5 years.

Which one sounds best? Plus what guarantee would you expect? I like Lifestyle But they only give a 10 yr guarantee for frames and 5 yr for glass and fitting which I thought was not enough.

It's such a minefield when paying out so much money.

Thank you :)

Have you checked what it would cost you to purchase them all yourself and get them fitted?

10 year guarantee on frames is common.

I would never let that first company anywhere near to my home. They did call one day and I told them to clear off. Never, never ever. They have gone out of business an unbelievable amount of times and been resurrected under a different owners name. Were guarantees ever honoured?

I make timber windows and my glass supplier guarantee for glass units in timber windows is 5 years but for Upvc they give a 10 year warranty which I believe is pretty much the standard in Upvc.

Never seen a 30 yr warranty on glazing units are you sure its not just the frames?.

prices look solid, i am actually having quotes done at the moment, 15 windows, 2 bay windows and a compsite door, foil color and ball park seems around 9k..30 year guarantee!?!? crazy that, not seen that, they are either the best in the world or utter filth that will break in a year....i would try to stick with a local firm that has a showroom if possible, the prices look great at least in comparison to my quotes but local are even better, the big companies are all about the sale the little guys want to do it properly.....all the best and goodluck!

Forget the biggies, give your patronage to local companies, they are more likely to give you good after service as word of mouth can make or break them.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I found my double glazer 13 years ago when I moved into a street that had a plumber. a bathroom conversion specialist, a tiler and a small builder living in it. I asked them and they all recommended (and perhaps more importantly, used) a local guy who had just started out on his own.

Local tradesmen see other people's work all the time, on building sites and in private houses and their opinions are based on what they've seen with their own eyes.

I took their advice and have never had reason to regret it.
