I bought a BMW last year - fitted it with winter tyres - and have now sold my 4X4 Freelander as I no longer need it.
I live in rural Aberdeenshire.
It's all to do with tyres - rear-wheel drive is not the problem.
Yes, when we went to the local jag showroom today it was explained that most of the luxury brands are rear wheel drive. The salesman said good tyres in the winter are the solution. He said all the engineers of these brands cannot be wrong that it's a superior drive. We've yet to do a test drive on any car yet so can't say for certainty if it feels better. Tomorrow hopefully
We're in the central belt so I'd imagine your winters might be a wee bit more severe.

The jaguar is front runner at the moment but we're going back to the mercedes garage tomorrow so it could all change again.....
Thanks again for all input.
Try a 520d. Great all rounders, strong MPG. You *might* be able to get a new model F10 in budget.0 -
The salesman is correct, even the best front wheel drive car will not match the handling of an average RWD car. Give the jag a good test run, you'll either love it or hate it - most seem to love it0

If you like showing your money, Jag XF.
If you don't, Skoda Superb or VW Phaeton.
Audi's and Mercs aren't what they once were.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

My son had had his Jag.XF3.0D for 4 years now and plans to keep it for several years more. I notice also that he's very happy to drive big distances ferrying family members around. Must prove something.0 -
Thank you all for your opinions.
We never did test drive either BMW, we feel it's looking a wee bit dated or Jaguar, after weighing it all up the running costs were too much. We've gone for a nice mercedes c class, a bit over budget but over 60mpg, £30 a year road tax and really nice to drive so happy with our choice.
Cheers again everyone0 -
A bit late now you have changed but what was wrong with just keeping the A6.0

I was going to ask the same question! The original post didnt seem to show any reason why a change was needed.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
The car is starting to cause problems. Just last week the brakes seized and the garage have told us that various parts are probably going to need replacing soon costing £600 to £800 so we feel it's just throwing money away. It's had its day sadly. We did enjoy it and it's been a good workhorse but time to move on.0
