BELOW IS PASTED A COPY OF AN E-MAIL I RECEIVED WITH THE ABOVE TITLE, AND PURPORTING TO BE FROM EBAY:
Subj: Account Suspension Warning. Please Verify Ownership
Date: 29/04/2005 04:22:45 GMT Daylight Time
From: aw-confirm@ebay.com
To: HERE WAS ENTERED MY PERSONAL EMAIL ADDRESS
Sent from the Internet (Details)
Your credit/debit card information must be updated
Dear eBay Member,
We recently noticed one or more attempts to log in to your eBay account from a foreign IP address and we have reasons to believe that your account was used by a third party without your authorization. If you recently accessed your account while traveling, the unusual login attempts may have been initiated by you
The login attempt was made from:
IP address: 172.25.210.66
ISP Host: cache-66.proxy.aol.com
By now, we used many techniques to verify the accuracy of the information our users provide us when they register on the Site. However, because user verification on the Internet is difficult, eBay cannot and does not confirm each user's purported identity. Thus, we have established an offline verification system o help you evaluate with who you are dealing with.
click on the link below, fill the form and then submit as we will verify
http://www.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?VerifyRegistrationShow
Please save this fraud alert ID for your reference
Please Note - If you choose to ignore our request, you leave us no choice but to temporally suspend your account.
* Please do not respond to this e-mail as your reply will not be received.
Respectfully,
Trust and Safety Department
eBay Inc.
THIS EMAIL HAD ALL THE EBAY LOGOS AND LINKS AND LOOKS REALLY GENUINE. HOWEVER, IT IS NOT. THE LINK IT ASKS YOU TO TAKE ASKS FOR YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD, AND PRESUMABLY THEN GOES ON TO CREDIT CARD DETAILS. I HAVE CHECKED WITH EBAY AND IT IS DEFINITELY NOT FROM THEM.
PLEASE PLEASE EVERYONE LOOK OUT FOR THIS. APART FROM THE SPELLING AND GRAMATICAL ERRORS IT IS VERY CONVINCING.

This is a frequent "phishing" scam trying to trick you into logging into your account (which is actually the scammers own website!) so that they can obtain your details and then sell/buy using your account! I agree the emails do look genuine at first glance and many people have obviously been taken in by them.
The real giveaway sign in any of these emails is "Dear Ebay/Paypal" member...genuine emails from either Ebay or Paypal will address you by name.
Just forward to spoof@ebay.co.uk and or spoof@paypal.com as appropriate.
If you're relatively new to ebay then you are likely to receive more so be warned and wary!0 -
These emails are very common, there is no need to post it here as we probably all had half a dozen each already today. Once you've seen a few they are not 'convincing'.
I might ask the mods if it is possible for me to put a sticky post at the top of this Board about these phishing mails to reassure people that get them for the first time and explain how to report them to ebay.
To reiterate the advice that is always given on this board never respond to anything that asks you to follow a link to log in. If in doubt send the email to spoof@ebay.co.uk.

Good heavens I did not realise I would offend you in this way ("no need to post it here ..."). I had never received anything like this before and was merely concerned that others should not be conned in any way. In the future, I will certainly keep my fears to myself as suggested. Once again, sincere apologies.Just off the border of your waking mind, there lies another time ....0
