Lloyds put in defence I need some advice plz

My son has gone through the process and got as far as going to small claims court. On the same day that the court advised TSB had put in a defence they paid an amount into his Select account, which was not the amount claimed and it was the wrong claim ref. Then he received written defence but no court date a few days ago another amount was paid back into his current account with the correct claim ref. Any suggestions on what he should do next - take the money and run, or wait to hear from the bank by letter, the defence states that he has not given adequate info and that he should be ordered to set out a new claim
