Regular letters from the TV licence folk

Before anyone says it, let me save you the time -
"how hard is it to go online & say you don't have a TV"
"how hard is it to write to them...."
"how hard is it to phone them..."
Ok now that's done, we keep getting letters from the TV licence folk saying our address no longer has a TV licence. We know this since we don't have a TV & have told them on numerous occasions & that we'll inform them if/when this changes.
We still get letters.
They're not writing to us saying they're going to investigate us. That's fine - they can come in & have a look if they wish. They'll see a building site.
Is there any way of stopping these letters? Or do they just keep coming until you buy a TV & then a licence?

They just keep coming! I was selling a vacant house at first we would inform them it was empty it would stop for a bit then start again so we stopped telling them and put the letter in the recycling."Normal is not something to aspire to - it is something to get away from" - Jodie Foster0

A number of possible actions you can take...
- Send a "Cease and Desist" letter.
- Make a general, formal complaint. (You may need to go through 2-3 steps in the complaint process for the letters to stop).
- Use a Common Law device called WOIRA - withdrawal of the implied right of access. (This bars them from approaching your premises, too). If you do this, also tell them accurately what AV equipment is installed (if any).
- Use ECHR Article 8 - say that you permanently withhold any potential consent to any potential breach of Article 8 - Right to Privacy.
They are subtly different devices, with subtly different effects, but all of them should stop the letters. All of them have been tested on TVL and found to be effective.
And before anyone says that this is a lot of trouble to go to - ask yourself this: how weak must TVL's position be if there are a number of ways of tackling them. And if they are that weak what business have they in bothering innocent people in the first place?0 -
take a photo off your building site and sent it to them"Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0

1. Chuck 'em into the bin.
2. Write to your MP and complain - at least he will have to courtesy to reply0 -
i dont pay because of the bbc in scotland's bias against the scottish government and independence.
nothing more than a labour mouthpiece. Thousands in Scotland do the same.
never had anyone at my door and if they did come they would be given a very warm welcome. :rotfl:0 -
The problem with that is that I have no wish to give my name, email or phone number to an organisation with which I have no legal connection. Fortunately they identify the letters on the outside, thus helping expedite the transfer from my doormat to my recycling bin.0

The bin, or recycling, is the best place for them indeed. Their database is obviously poorly maintained and has a lot of incorrect info. If you have tried to be helpful in the past in informing them of their error then do so no more.
Chuck the letters.0 -
Stick a sticker over the address and "return to sender".0

Scoring political points is not giving advice!
If it's a Labour mouthpiece, have you not noticed who won the last election? Scotland's own PM, Gordon Brown, left Downing Street some time ago.
Before you accuse me of having anti-Scottish bias, don't. I have family and friends in several areas of Scotland. They all have their own views about Scottish Independence, some of those are conflicting views, but they don't advocate them to others in public.
My own opinion as an Englishman of Welsh descent, is that the UK is better together, but all Scots are entitled to vote as they wish about affairs in their own country.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
