You cannot usually use it to deal with a dispute with your insurer if that's what you mean.

But you can use it to recover your uninsured losses.

(If you use the complaints procedure and are unhappy with the response you can then go to the FOS for their adjudication, all at no cost to you)
  • Are you able to post up pics on here of the areas of damage to the cars and state the name of the junction etc?

The problem you have with your case is that it amounts to proof. You need to prove your version of events over what the other party is alleging. In the absence of any independent witness evidence, it leaves matters in a situation whereby the collision could have happened how either party describes. The fairest and most cost-effective way to solve this is to go 50/50.

Not only that, but it is a realistic outcome at a court hearing too.

Another member posted up earlier about dashboard cameras, really speaking this is turning into the only way to protect yourself from this situation as people will be full of apologies to your face at the scene, but then twist the situation around when speaking with their insurers and cause a situation which was probably entirely their fault to become an exercise in futility and misery in the interests of trying to evade full liability.

Human nature now seems to be "how can I get out of this?" rather than," I messed up, better hold my hands up to it."

The latter was what I was going for.

Can post up pics later if you want. Will need to edit out license plates etc.

I was driving down a main road which has parking further up and down but around the junction there are extended kerbs and railings to prevent people parking as well as double yellow lines. Hence if I was parked opposite the junction, then there is no way TP could have turned right without going into the path of oncoming traffic. Meanwhile, I would not need to have "pulled out" as I would already be in the lane of traffic and would just basically drive forwards.

I would have thought that ordinarily with me on the main road, I would have right of way and TP should not have pulled out until it was clear. I suspect what happened was that TP saw the right side was clear but didn't check the left side for traffic.

Re: dash cams - I've been looking into these as well but need something reliable and fits in properly without extensive work.

Not the cheapest, but very small and very reliable. Excellent video quality in the day and at night. Wide field of view. The cheaper ones do suck I'm afraid.

Make sure you get an authentic one, but I managed to order a G1W dashcam for £30 delivered last week. (And then the car I was buying showed up this week with a £150 Papago thrown in for free! First world problems, eh)

Nothing touches the G1W without approaching £80, but you'll need to make sure you don't get a fake with an inferior chipset. Plenty of information available on the net.

A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.
